At around 6:30 pm, the border guard station received a report that PoLoong Nhuong, 45, a resident of Hung Son Commune, had been mauled by a bear on his way home after tending his crops.
Border guards and medical personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene and transported the victim to a nearby military-civilian medical station for first aid.
Initial assessments showed that Nhuong sustained multiple injuries to his face, abdomen, arms, and legs, with his chin severely torn and disfigured due to bite wounds.
Military medics managed to control the bleeding, dress his wounds, and administer IV fluids before transferring him by ambulance to Tay Giang Medical Center for further treatment.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Phuc Truong, political commissar of the Ga Ry Border Guard Station, said the unit provided VND2 million (US$76) in emergency support to help the victim's family cover treatment expenses.
Authorities also warned local residents to remain vigilant and cautious when traveling through or working in forested areas, where encounters with wild animals can occur.
Hung Son Commune, part of the newly established western border area of Da Nang, was formed from the merger of four former border communes, including Tr'Hy, Axan, Ch'ơm, and Ga Ry, all under Tay Giang District of the former Quang Nam Province.
The region is mountainous, heavily forested, and borders Laos.
