WPP Media Company Limited (GroupM Vietnam), located in Ho Chi Minh City, has been fined VND25 million (US$1,039) for violating regulations on running advertisements on cross-border platforms.
The Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information under the Ministry of Information and Communications passed a decision to levy the administrative fine on the company on August 31 this year.
WPP put an advertisement for Redoxon, a pharmaceutical brand under Bayer Vietnam Limited Company, a subsidiary of German pharmaceutical company Bayer, on a YouTube channel containing illegal content.
The company also infringed regulations asking it to report its 2022 cross-border advertising operations to authorities.
WPP admitted its wrongdoings and pledged to comply with prevailing regulations on cross-border advertising activities, the authority said.
The authority and relevant agencies are ramping up efforts to check and handle online advertising violations, which remain rampant in cyberspace where toxic, anti-state content could damage the prestige of businesses and trap them into breaching prevailing regulations.
