Thirty-nine contestants from the Miss Charm 2025 pageant traded glamorous gowns for the simplicity of ‘ao ba ba,’ a traditional garment of the southern region, and ‘khan ran’ (striped scarf) as they transformed into Mekong Delta farm girls during a recent cultural experience trip to Can Tho City in southern Vietnam.

After the sash-awarding ceremony held in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday night, the beauties headed to Can Tho City to immerse themselves in the everyday life of local farmers.

The contestants waded through canals to catch fish, cycled along village paths, crossed traditional 'money bridges,' made banh xeo (sizzling Vietnamese pancakes), and savored regional delicacies.

What particularly captivated onlookers was the sight of women from diverse countries and territories donning the traditional southern attire, radiating rustic charm and offering a warm, authentic portrayal of rural Vietnam.

At first hesitant to step into the mud, they quickly warmed to the challenge, laughing as they used traditional fish traps and cheered each other on.

A highlight of the excursion was the hands-on lesson in making banh xeo, the beloved Vietnamese savory dish that embodies the cultural richness of the region’s cuisine.

Vietnam’s representative Mai Ngo took on the role of a tour guide, enthusiastically sharing information about each activity.

She said she felt no pressure – only excitement – to be part of promoting local tourism and culture.

“If anyone needs help, I’m ready. If someone wants to introduce something, I’m happy to support,” she said.

“It doesn’t feel like a competition anymore but an opportunity to connect and truly understand one another."

As scheduled, the delegation would meet and interact with students at Nam Can Tho University on Wednesday.

Their journey will then continue through Vung Tau in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring Tay Ninh Province.

The Miss Charm 2025 grand finale is set for December 12.

Miss Charm is the first Vietnamese-founded beauty contest, which was announced in 2019 with the aim of promoting culture, tourism, and educational activities.
