More sets of martyrs’ remains found in Ho Chi Minh City, Hue, Quang Tri

At Le Thi Rieng Park in Ho Chi Minh City, the municipal High Command’s search teams found three sets of remains, bringing the total to 96 individual remains and two collective graves along with numerous artifacts.

Later that day, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam attended a memorial ceremony at the park, offering incense and flowers to honor the martyrs.

He also met with the search teams, encouraging them and presenting gifts.

The ceremony was joined by Politburo member and Ho Chi Minh City Party Secretary Tran Luu Quang, senior military leaders, and city officials.

Delegates paid tribute at the monument to former Party General Secretary Tran Phu, the memorial dedicated to martyrs of the former District 10, the temporary hall where the newly-recovered remains are being kept, and memorial sites honoring martyrs Le Thi Rieng and Tran Van Kieu.

In Quang Tri’s Hieu Giang Commune, local authorities and Division 968’s recovery team unearthed two sets of remains.

The discovery was based on information from war veterans Nguyen Dinh Loi and Nguyen Dinh Kiet.

The remains were found at a depth of 50-60 centimeters, accompanied by artifacts including a body bag, nine buttons, a belt, and a plastic bag containing decomposed bones.

They were transferred to the Phu Ngan community cultural house for worship while identification efforts continue.

In Hue, Team 192 of the city’s Military Command recovered one set of remains near Huong Thuy station.

The site, a white sand area covering 2.5 hectares, was carefully excavated by soldiers using manual methods.

Colonel Le Hong Viet, political commissar of the Hue Military Command, personally oversaw the recovery, placing the remains in a casket draped with the Vietnamese national flag and conducting a memorial service.

Authorities plan to expand the search area on Saturday, hoping to find more remains.
