According to initial reports, N.T.M.N., 49, and her daughter T.B.N. lived with M.N.’s 84-year-old father Nguyen Ngoc An in Hung Thanh Commune.

In recent days, floodwaters from the Nguyen Van Tiep Canal have risen, submerging their house floor under about 30 centimeters of water.

Around 3:20 pm on Sunday, M.N. and her daughter went to bathe in the rear bathroom but did not return for a long time.

When An went to check, he discovered both lying unconscious in the water near the bathroom entrance and immediately called for help.

Police later examined the scene and found burn marks on an electrical wire connecting the main house to the bathroom, where the two victims had reportedly turned on the light before bathing.

Initial investigation suggests the mother and her daughter died from electrocution.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
