Authorities in Quang Binh Province, north-central Vietnam have uncovered nearly four metric tons of contaminated frozen meat products, including pork, chicken, and buffalo, illegally imported from abroad and stored in a cold warehouse awaiting distribution to the market.

The market surveillance agency in Quang Binh confirmed on Thursday that market surveillance team No. 6, in coordination with the economic police division under the provincial police, discovered the illegal shipment in a cold storage facility.

The entire quantity of meat was seized and documented for further processing.

Authorities raided the premises of Thinh Phat Food Import-Export Co. Ltd., headquartered in Dong Hoi City, Quang Binh Province, and found the meat.

The meat shipment included pork parts such as pork shank slices, pig hearts, boneless pork belly with skin, pig tails, pork knuckles, pork belly, pig tongues, front and hind pig feet, and pork ribs.

The shipment also contained chicken products like drumsticks, whole chickens, chicken feet, and wings, in addition to over half a tonne of buffalo meat and frozen potato strips.

Inspection results revealed that all of the goods were produced overseas, with an estimated value of nearly VND260 million (US$9,963).

The owner of the facility was unable to provide invoices or documents proving the origin of the frozen food products.
