Education New Zealand, which is New Zealand’s government agency in charge of promoting the country’s education internationally, held a ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday to honor the 2025 recipients of the New Zealand Schools Scholarships.
Launched in 2019, the NZSS forms part of the New Zealand government's strategy aimed at attracting exceptional international students to New Zealand’s education system.
The scholarship evaluates not only academic performance but also personal qualities, growth potential, and cross-cultural adaptability.
This year, the 20 Vietnamese scholars will begin their studies in New Zealand from either July 2025 or January 2026.
Each recipient is currently enrolled in grades 8, 9, or 10 in Vietnam and will receive a 50-percent tuition subsidy for their first academic year at a selected New Zealand school.
In addition to financial support, the scholarship includes comprehensive assistance ranging from school selection and accommodation arrangements to cultural orientation and academic integration, offering a full experience of New Zealand’s education and lifestyle.
Speaking at the ceremony, Scott James, New Zealand’s Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, praised the students' academic excellence and the passion and determination reflected in their personal stories.
