New Zealand wins Asian Women's Beach Volleyball Championship in Vietnam

The Asian Women's Beach Volleyball Championship concluded on Monday afternoon in Tuy Hoa City, Phu Yen Province, south-central Vietnam, with the New Zealand team being the winner.

The tournament was organized between April 25 and 28 by the Asian Volleyball Confederation in collaboration with the Phu Yen People’s Committee and Cong May Joint Stock Company.

After several days of exciting and competitive matches, the championship came to an end with a convincing victory by the New Zealand women’s team. 

In the final match, the New Zealand players defeated Thailand with a score of 2-0 to claim the championship title.

An Australian team secured third place, while another Australian team finished fourth.

New Zealand player Shaunna Polley was honored with the tournament's best player title.

Polley expressed her delight, “I’m incredibly surprised and happy to have participated in this tournament. 

"A heartfelt thank you to the organizers for giving us the opportunity to compete and achieve such a wonderful result. 

"I really admire the climate and the people of your country.”

This year’s tournament featured 44 athletes of 22 teams representing 10 countries and territories in Asia: Vietnam, Australia, Japan, Thailand, China, Malaysia, New Zealand, Kazakhstan, Vanuatu, and Hong Kong.

As the host nation, Vietnam fielded four teams comprising eight athletes who are part of the national team that will compete at the upcoming Southeast Asian Games, slated for December this year.

Vice-chairman of the Phu Yen People’s Committee Dao My said that the participating athletes were impressed with the local landscapes and people, as well as the professionalism and attention to detail in the organization of the tournament.

“The event helped promote Phu Yen’s natural beauty to visitors," said My.

"Through this beach volleyball championship, we aim to improve our event organization to host even larger-scale events in the future."
