On Friday, the Nha Trang Ward administration in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam is completing procedures for businesses and tourism operators to sign contracts to use sections of Nha Trang beach for beach chair and umbrella services.
The contracts must be renewed following the Khanh Hoa administration introduction of new beach rental rates, effective July 1, 2026.
According to the Nha Trang Ward Public Service Center, the previous rental rates were proposed by the provincial Department of Finance and approved by the provincial administration.
The new rates have applied since July 1.
The beach section managed by Nha Trang Ward extends from the southern side of Tran Phu Bridge to Hoang Dieu Street and is divided into two areas.
Area 1 extends from Phan Chu Trinh Street, south of Tran Phu Bridge, to Hoang Dieu Street.
The new rental rate for Area 1 is nearly VND4 million per square meter per year, compared with more than VND2.6 million ($99) previously.
The new rental rate for Area 2 is more than VND1.3 million ($49) per square meter per year, compared with nearly VND9,000 ($0.34) previously.
The higher rates have raised concerns among hotels along Tran Phu Street about the cost of renting beach areas, particularly during the low tourist season.
A representative of the Nha Trang Ward Public Service Center said the new rates were set in accordance with a directive previously issued by the Khanh Hoa administration.

Hotel representatives said Nha Trang's tourism industry relies heavily on international visitors, whose arrivals vary by season.
Russian tourists, for example, mainly visit during the summer, while other international visitors generally prefer warmer periods to travel to the coastal city.
"The new rate is quite high. It would not be a problem during the peak tourist season, but businesses would inevitably incur losses during the low season when there are few tourists," a hotel representative said.
