Local authorities confirmed the land subsidence occurred at around 1:30 am in Gia Rai Ward, formerly part of Ho Phong Ward in Gia Rai Town, Bac Lieu Province.

The current Ca Mau was established by merging former Ca Mau and Bac Lieu Provinces, following a recent major administrative restructuring in which 63 Vietnamese provinces and cities were reduced to 34 and local administrations were divided into provinces/cities and wards/communes, effective July 1.

The incident destroyed the five homes and their belongings, affecting a total area of approximately 179 square meters.

No one was injured during the incident.

Local officials quickly arrived at the scene to assist affected families.

Emergency teams helped evacuate remaining property and secured the area to prevent further risks.

Initial investigations attributed the land collapse to tidal surges eroding the riverbank soil in the area, which lies close to the water's edge.

Rising river levels during high tide are believed to have triggered the collapse.

Gia Rai authorities have since put up warning signs, cordoned off the danger zone, and deployed teams to monitor the situation closely in case of further incidents.
