The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said the widespread rain event will primarily affect mountainous and midland provinces in the north, with rainfall totals ranging from 30mm to 70mm. Some locations could receive more than 120mm.

The Red River Delta may see scattered showers and thunderstorms, with rainfall of 20mm to 40mm and isolated areas recording more than 80mm.

Rain is expected to intensify again from Monday night through Tuesday, during which mountainous and midland regions could see rainfall of 40mm to 80mm, while some areas may receive more than 130mm.

The national weather agency warned that the prolonged rainfall may trigger flooding in low-lying areas, urban centers, and industrial zones.

Flash floods on small rivers and streams, as well as landslides in mountainous regions, are also possible.

Before the rain arrives, hot weather is expected to persist across northern Vietnam on Sunday.

Temperatures in the northern midland and delta regions are forecast to reach 35-37 degrees Celsius, with some locations exceeding 37 degrees Celsius.

Central Vietnam will continue to experience intense heat. The provinces and cities stretching from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang, as well as the eastern areas from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak, are forecast to record temperatures of 36-38 degrees Celsius, with some places exceeding 38 degrees Celsius.

The weather agency said the heatwave in northern and north-central provinces will ease by Monday but is expected to return around June 20.

Meanwhile, the central and south-central coastal provinces from Quang Tri to Dak Lak will continue to endure severe heat for several more days.

The National Civil Defense Steering Committee has urged local authorities in northern provinces, Thanh Hoa, and Nghe An to inform residents promptly about the risks, evacuate people from high-risk areas prone to flash floods and landslides, mobilize emergency teams to clear blocked waterways, and strengthen communication networks to spread safety information and preparedness skills.
