Hanoi collected approximately 1,650 tonnes of waste during National Day celebrations on Tuesday, about 410 tonnes more than the city's average daily volume, according to the Hanoi Urban Environment Company (Urenco).

In a statement issued on Tuesday afternoon, Urenco said it mobilized 199 workers from affiliated units to assist with waste collection in key areas where parades and festivities were held.

Working with the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum High Command, Urenco deployed extra staff and vehicles along Doc Lap Street, Hoang Van Thu Street, Dien Bien Phu Street, and the Ba Dinh Square area, where around 30 tonnes of waste was gathered.

At the Vietnam Exposition Center, Urenco carried out 65 collection trips to remove approximately 1,300 cubic meters of waste, equal to about 390 tonnes.

The company also collaborated with 13 ward-level People's Committees, distributing 12,000 plastic bags to 9,000 youth union members who supported post-event clean-up efforts.

Immediately after the parades ended, Urenco crews completed the cleaning of streets and sidewalks around Ba Dinh Square and along the parade routes within 60 minutes.

By 10:30 am on Tuesday, the city had met environmental hygiene standards in these high-traffic zones.

The National Day celebrations are estimated to have involved or served between one and 1.5 million people.

To meet increased sanitation demands, Urenco installed nearly 100 mobile toilets and two temporary field toilet units at various locations throughout the day.
