PeaceTrees Vietnam announced on Wednesday that it had safely removed a large quantity of explosive materials discovered in a resident’s backyard in Khe Sanh Commune, Quang Tri Province, central Vietnam, according to Nhan Dan (People) newspaper.

On June 30, the family of Tran Van Phu, residing in Zone 4 of Khe Sanh Commune, found several suspicious objects believed to be bombs and mines while digging holes to plant trees in their garden.

They immediately reported the discovery to local authorities.

Upon receiving the report, the mobile Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team No. 1 (EOD1) of PeaceTrees Vietnam Quang Tri arrived at the scene.

After gathering information, securing the area, and conducting a thorough assessment, the team identified a total of 361 unexploded 7.62mm rounds and eight M33 grenades with broken fuses.

While still capable of causing serious harm, the explosives were deemed safe enough for transport.

The EOD1 team safely collected and relocated all the explosives to a secure storage facility for proper disposal in accordance with technical procedures.

Founded in 1995 by Danaan Parry and Jerilyn Brusseau, PeaceTrees Vietnam was the first U.S. organization permitted to sponsor humanitarian demining efforts in Vietnam, according to its website.
