Police officer killed by dislodged container truck wheels in Vietnam

The current Gia Lai Province is a combination of the former Gia Lai Province and neighboring Binh Dinh Province, effective from July 1, as part of a recent major administrative restructuring in which 63 Vietnamese provinces and cities were reduced to 34.

The administrative restructuring also resulted in local administrations being divided into provinces/cities and wards/communes.

As a result, An Nhon Bac Ward was established by merging Nhon Thanh Ward, Nhon Phong Commune, and Nhon Hanh Commune in the erstwhile Binh Dinh Province.

Nguyen Anh Dung, chairman of the administration in An Nhon Bac Ward, confirmed on Sunday that representatives from the local Party Committee and People's Committee attended the funeral of the police officer the same morning.

The victim was Captain P.H.V., 36, an officer at the An Nhon Bac Ward police station.

Around 6:00 pm on Saturday, after finishing work, V. returned home and went for a walk along National Highway 19B, Dung said.

At the same time, a container truck driven by Le Duc Loi, a resident of Gia Lai, experienced a broken drive axle, which caused a pair of wheels to detach from the vehicle.

The wheels, propelled by momentum, rolled to and struck Captain V., killing him instantly.

After striking the police officer, the vehicle kept moving and crashed into two parked motorbikes, causing damage.

Local authorities quickly secured the scene and are working with Gia Lai police officers to investigate the incident.

Dung said that after offering condolences to the victim’s family, the local administration is considering financial support to assist them during this difficult time.

Captain V. is survived by his wife, who is a teacher, and two children with the youngest being only 24 months old.
