Vietnamese police are investigating an alleged assault on a group of foreign tourists in the south-central coastal hub of Nha Trang after a video of the incident circulated widely on social media, local authorities said on Friday.

Officials in Nha Trang Ward, part of Khanh Hoa Province, said they had instructed ward police to urgently verify the incident, which reportedly involved a group of young people attacking foreign visitors on a street.

The 24-second video, filmed by a bystander and posted online, shows several foreign tourists attempting to flee while being chased by about five Vietnamese people, including men and women.

Some of the attackers appear to be carrying weapons.

In the footage, one foreign tourist turns back to help a companion who is being beaten, before being struck by a man holding a weapon and knocked to the ground.

The victim later gets up and runs as another attacker pursues him, shouting and continuing to strike.

Foreign tourists are assaulted by a group of people carrying weapons on a street in Nha Trang Ward, Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam, in this video shared on social media.

Authorities said they were working to confirm the identities of those involved and determine the cause of the altercation.

The incident follows another clash involving foreign visitors in Nha Trang about a month earlier, when bar staff were filmed threatening tourists with a shovel and plastic chairs after a dispute.

The bar later apologized and said it had disciplined the employees involved.

Nha Trang is a major tourism hub in Vietnam, known for its beaches and coastal scenery.

It recorded about 14.8 million overnight visitors in 2025, including roughly 4.6 million international tourists, with tourism revenue estimated at more than VND60.3 trillion (US$2.3 billion), according to local authorities.
