Provincial police director appointed chairman of Vietnam’s telecom giant MobiFone
Major General Truong Son Lam, director of the police department in Ben Tre Province, southern Vietnam, has been appointed chairman of the members’ council of major telecom service provider MobiFone, effective from June 12.
He replaces Nguyen Hong Hien, who was recently appointed director of the department of science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation under the Commission for Policies and Strategies.
Born in 1972 in Thanh Hoa Province, north-central Vietnam, Lam holds a degree in information technology from the Hanoi University of Science and Technology and a PhD from the People’s Security Academy.
He also holds an advanced degree in political theory.
Before his new appointment, Lam served as director of the Ben Tre police departmenr.
He has extensive experience in cybersecurity and combating high-tech crime, having previously served as deputy director of the Department of Cybersecurity and High-Tech Crime Prevention under the Ministry of Public Security.
In February 2025, the Ministry of Public Security assumed the role of state capital representative at MobiFone from the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises.
MobiFone, established in 1993 as the Vietnam Mobile Telecom Services Company, was the first mobile network operator in Vietnam.
In December 2014, it was reorganized into the MobiFone Telecommunications Corporation.
