The La Lay International Border Gate Border Guard Station said Friday that it had coordinated with other units to break up a ring involved in illegally arranging the entry of foreign nationals across the border.

The station has initiated criminal proceedings and handed the case over to Quang Tri provincial police for further investigation.

At around 1:00 pm on August 29, a joint border patrol from the La Lay International Border Gate Station and other units spotted Ho Van Ngheo, 39, a local resident, transporting two Lao nationals without identity documents from Laos into Vietnam.

An urgent search of Ngheo's residence found seven more Lao nationals without identity documents or the required immigration documents.

As the investigation was expanded, border guards detained Ho Thi Khanh, 30, from Can Tom Village, A Luoi 5 Commune, Hue City, and Ho Thi A Ut, 37, from A Bung Village, La Lay Commune.

The three suspects admitted to arranging the illegal entry of a total of 15 Lao nationals into Vietnam to seek employment in Ho Chi Minh City.

Authorities are continuing to search for the six remaining Lao nationals.
