Railway worker killed by freight train in Vietnam

A railway track maintenance worker was killed after being struck by a freight train on the North-South rail line in Vietnam’s Lam Dong Province early on Friday, police said.

The accident occurred at about 5:00 am at km 1566 in Ham Kiem Commune, according to Lam Dong provincial police.

The victim, identified as L.D.H., 33, from Ha Tinh Province, was working on track inspection duties when he was hit by freight train HH7 traveling from north to south, police said.

The collision took place between Ham Cuong Tay and Suoi Van Stations and killed the worker at the scene.

Following the incident, the train stopped to allow authorities to document the scene and later resumed its journey in accordance with regulations.

Police in Ham Kiem Commune secured the area and coordinated with relevant units to examine the scene, collect evidence, and determine the circumstances leading to the accident.

Lam Dong police said forensic examinations of the scene and the victim had been ordered as part of the investigation.

Authorities said that about 15 km from the site, another railway accident on February 7 involving train SE2 also resulted in the death of a track maintenance worker.
