The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across southern Vietnam and the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong late on Monday, with rainfall ranging from 10 to 30 millimeters and localized totals exceeding 60 mm.
Thunderstorms could bring whirlwinds, lightning, hail and strong gusts, potentially damaging crops, uprooting trees and damaging homes, transport facilities and other infrastructure.
Localized downpours could also trigger flash floods along small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes, and flooding in low-lying areas.
Within the next three days, rain is expected mainly in the late afternoon, at night and into the early morning, coinciding with high tides forecast to reach elevated levels from early to midweek, according to the Southern Regional Hydro-Meteorological Station.
The combination could cause deeper flooding in low-lying areas along rivers, disrupting daily activities and travel, particularly in neighborhoods vulnerable to tidal inundation.
Residents are advised to exercise caution when traveling through flooded streets and to monitor weather and tidal updates, especially during evening and early-morning commutes.
Elsewhere, showers and thunderstorms affected areas in central Vietnam from Hue to Da Nang and the eastern parts of Quang Ngai, Dak Lak, and Khanh Hoa Provinces from Sunday night into early Monday morning.
Rainfall measured from 7:00 pm on Sunday to 8:00 am on Monday exceeded 100 mm at several monitoring stations.
On Monday night, areas from southern Quang Tri Province to Da Nang and across the eastern parts of Quang Ngai, Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa Provinces may receive rainfall of 20-40 mm, with localized totals surpassing 80 mm.
