Tran Thi Ngoc Lien, deputy director of the SBV Region 2 branch, said remittances to the city rose from $9.55 billion in 2024, continuing a steady upward trend.
Asia remained the largest source of remittance inflows, accounting for the dominant share, driven by increases from markets including Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, where large numbers of Vietnamese workers are employed, Lien said.
She said remittances from Africa posted the fastest growth, rising more than 130 percent in the first six months of 2025 from the same period a year earlier.
Transfers from Europe rose 16 percent, from the Americas 11.9 percent, and from Oceania 8.9 percent.
"The steady growth of remittance inflows has supported the city's economic development by stimulating consumption and investment and increasing foreign currency supply," Lien said.
At a meeting with overseas Vietnamese held by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee in late August 2025, Vu Thi Huynh Mai, deputy chief of the committee's office, said the city typically accounts for 40 percent to 53 percent of total remittances to Vietnam each year.
Ho Chi Minh City has approved a program to enhance the effectiveness of remittance resources through 2030, aiming to facilitate overseas Vietnamese participation in investment, production, and business.
The city said it would continue refining policies to support their contributions to key economic and social programs.
The central bank's data also show that neighboring provinces under Region 2's supervision recorded more than $127.5 million in remittances through credit institutions as of June 30, 2025.
Former Ba Ria–Vung Tau received more than $27.2 million, old Binh Duong $53.2 million, Dong Nai $42.3 million, and erstwhile Binh Phuoc $4.6 million.
Ba Ria–Vung Tau and Binh Duong have been merged into Ho Chi Minh City following a nationwide administrative overhaul in July 2025, and Dong Nai has administered Binh Phuoc ever since.
