The body was brought to the surface that evening and transferred to local authorities for identification and further investigation, according to police.
Earlier that afternoon, during a routine patrol of the Son Tra Peninsula – a popular tourist destination in Da Nang – authorities discovered a motorbike that had been left near Bai Bac for several days.
Upon inspection, they found identification documents inside the vehicle that belonged to a foreign man, raising concerns about a potential accident.
Local police, military personnel, and militia were mobilized to begin a search operation.
However, the area's steep rocky slopes and deep cliffs made access extremely difficult.
A highly skilled rescue team from the fire prevention, firefighting, and rescue police division under the Da Nang police department was deployed to assist in the effort.
Wearing safety harnesses and using a specialized pulley system, the rescuers cut through dense vegetation with machetes to reach the ravine.
They eventually located the decomposing body of a man more than 30 meters below.
The team then successfully brought the victim's body to the surface using the same pulley system.
The area has since been secured to support the ongoing investigation, with forensic teams arriving to carry out the necessary procedures in accordance with official regulations.
