A serious accident occurred early on Sunday morning when a car and two motorbikes plunged into a large sinkhole on an approach road leading to Hoa Binh Bridge in Chau Thanh District under Tay Ninh Province, a neighbor of Ho Chi Minh City, leaving six people injured.

The six victims, including a 70-year-old woman and a 13-year-old child, were rushed to the Tay Ninh General Hospital.

At 9:00 am on the same day, local authorities remained at the scene, investigating the cause of the collapse.

Initial reports indicated that a car driven by 43-year-old N.V.T. was traveling with three passengers, among them the elderly woman and the child, on the approach road leading to the bridge, which was opened to traffic in late April.

The vehicle had just crossed the bridge from Hoa Thanh Commune toward Hoa Hoi Commune when it suddenly dropped into a section of the road that had sunk.

The vehicle landed on its side with visible damage to several components.

Simultaneously, two motorbikes traveling along the same route also fell into the subsided section.

The subsidence was attributed to prolonged heavy rainfall.

The area lacked any visible warning signs or traffic alerts about the danger.

Hoa Binh Bridge, which spans Soc Hoa Hoi Canal, was widened to 12 meters in June 2024.

The construction, funded by more than VND37 billion (US$1.4 million) from the state budget, includes a 450-meter-long bridge and approach roads totaling over 410 meters.
