A Russian suspect wanted by Interpol for a drug-related crime was captured by Vietnamese police after in the north-central province of Quang Tri earlier this week.
The provincial border guard office confirmed on Wednesday that the unit had taken Gavrilov Inor, a 29-year-old Russian national wanted by Interpol for the storage and use of narcotics, into custody.
Border guard officers at the Lao Bao Border Gate in Huong Hoa District, Quang Tri Province, first identified Inor as an internationally wanted suspect when he tried to pass through the border using a valid passport.
They then worked with the Quang Tri police department to apprehend him.
At the police station, Inor stated he had left Russia in 2017 and traveled to Turkey, Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos as a tourist before entering Vietnam.
