Though Ho Chi Minh City was quieter during the Lunar New Year holiday as many returned to their hometowns or traveled, the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens still recorded higher visitor numbers compared to last Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday.

A representative of the zoo said that from the first to the sixth day of the 2026 Lunar New Year, it welcomed more than 110,000 visitors, up over 10 percent from the 2025 Tet holiday.

This year, the zoo introduced several special programs to attract visitors.

Guests could meet friendly 'residents' such as goats, sheep, ponies, parrots and geese, which joined a special parade strolling alongside a slowly moving spring train through the lush green garden.

More than just a parade, the event offered a gentle encounter between visitors and animals.

Children learned about animal behaviors, observed them up close, and were encouraged to love and respect wildlife.

In addition, the 'Closer to Nature' program allowed visitors to watch elephants, hippos, and tigers demonstrate natural behaviors.

Guests could feed some animals and listen to zoo staff share real-life stories about the quiet bond between humans and animals.
