Seawalking service offered in Vietnam’s Hoi An City

From now on tourists to Cham Islands off the coast in central Vietnam will have the chance to walk under the sea and explore its ecosystem.

The seawalking service was launched on Thursday by Cham Island Tourist Company Limited in Quang Nam Province.

Tourists will be equipped with ‘Sea TREK,’ a helmet manufactured in the U.S. and specifically designed for diving activities.

It features a ‘tri-view’ lens which offers a clean, undistorted view, and a continuous supply of clean, dry, cool air, providing a comfortable breathing environment.

The helmet weighs approximately 32 kilograms above water, while beneath the surface the weight is about seven kilograms.

A balloon will be attached to the top of children’s helmets to help further reduce weight.

Each helmet receives air from an electrically powered compressor that offers redundant levels of reserve air supply and safety.

Nguyen Huy Hoang, director of the Cham Island Tourist Company Limited, said he brought the service to Hoi An City, home to the islands, in the hope of offering tourists more options to enjoy their holidays.

Each visitor will pay VND950,000 (US$42.62) for a 20-minute walk under the sea at a depth of five to six meters.

A tour lasts 20 minutes, including six tourists and professional tour guides equipped with diving suits to ensure their safety.

A trial seawalking service was launched in Nha Trang, a resort city on the south-central coast, last year at a price of VND800,000 ($35.89) a person for a 15-minute walk.
