Brief description:
This small game is designed to raise students’ awareness of the importance of understanding what one reads and that in reading comprehension, it is helpful for the student to know at least 80 to 90 percent of the vocabulary used in what he/she reads.
Get a piece of paper, a pen and some colored pencils or crayons. You are going to follow the written instructions below in perfect sequence and see in the end if you get the exact drawing or diagram. Remember, if you do not get the first instruction right, the drawing will be different.
Have fun AND no cheating!
THE INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Draw a grid with three columns and nine rows.
2. Going from left to right (starting at the left topmost cell) fill each cell with the CAPITAL letters of the alphabet, in their proper order.
3. From the cell containing the letter r, go three cells north.
4. Color this cell green.
5. From the cell where you stopped, go two cells west.
6. Color this cell yellow.
7. Then go four cells south.
8. Color this cell blue.
9. Then go two cells east.
10. Color this cell red.
11. Then go two cells south.
12. Draw a star in the cell where you landed.
Glossary:
• Crayon (noun): a colored pencil or stick of soft colored chalk or wax, used for drawing (Bút màu)
• Sequence (noun): the order that something happens or exists in (Trình tự)
• See (in the end) if… : to find out/ discover something by looking, asking or waiting (Kiểm tra lại xem, thử xem)
• Diagram (noun): a drawing that uses simple lines to show what something looks like (Hình vẽ, biểu đồ)
• Grid (noun): what you get when you cross vertical and horizontal lines (Ô kẻ, bảng kẻ ô)
• Column (noun): what is formed with vertical lines (Cột)
• Row (noun): what is formed with horizontal lines (Hàng)
• Topmost (adjective): highest (Trên cùng)
• Cell (noun): the individual square spaces (boxes) formed when you cross vertical and horizontal lines (Từng ô kẻ/ vuông)
• North, East, West, South (noun): the four main directions/ points of a compass (Hướng Bắc, Đông, Tây, Nam)
• North (adverb): towards the north (Về hướng Bắc)
• East (adverb): towards the east (Về hướng Đông)
• West (adverb): towards the west (Về hướng Tây)
• South (adverb): towards the south (Về hướng Nam)
• Capital letter (noun): a letter of the alphabet that is written in its large form, for example at the beginning of a name or sentence (Chữ cái viết hoa)
• Proper (adjective): right, correct (Đúng)
• Proper order: Đúng thứ tự
• To color (verb): to put color on something using paint or colored pencils (Tô màu)
• To land (verb): to reach a final position (Dừng lại)
