The livestock production and animal health department under the ministry said on Sunday that since the start of 2025, 386 outbreaks had been reported in 15 northern provinces and cities.
Over 22,020 pigs have been infected, died, or culled, down 44 percent in outbreaks and 60 percent in affected pigs year on year.
Over the past three weeks, 212 ASF outbreaks have been recorded in 11 provinces.
New outbreaks account for nearly 55 percent of the total having been detected since early 2025.
The outbreak’s resurgence came despite a directive issued on June 4 by the ministry urging local authorities to implement drastic measures against the spread of ASF, particularly in high-risk provinces such as Cao Bang, Lang Son, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh.
Besides, dozens of inspection and guidance teams were deployed to support prevention efforts across the affected areas.
However, the disease continues to spread.
Lang Son Province detected 118 outbreaks across over 1,860 households, with some 5,630 pigs culled.
Cao Bang Province reported 43 outbreaks at more than 1,470 households, resulting in 7,720 pigs being destroyed, while Dien Bien Province had 17 outbreaks involving 272 households and the culling of 1,118 pigs.
The department has pledged to continue dispatching inspection teams to ASF-prone provinces.
Efforts will also be intensified to educate farmers about prevention, especially the importance of vaccination.

Police in Phu Tho Province reported two recent cases of illegal pig transport involving ASF-infected animals.
On July 9, officers in Tam Duong Bac Commune stopped a truck carrying 23 pigs without clear origin or the legally required veterinary health certificates.
Rapid testing of three random samples revealed that two were positive for ASF.
The pigs were reportedly purchased from Dai Dinh Commune and were en route to Hai Phong City for distribution.
Another case was reported on July 11 when traffic police in Phu Tho checked a vehicle driven by Pham Dinh Duan, a 42-year-old resident of Nghe An Province, discovering it transporting 190 hogs without any documentation related to animal health, origin, or vaccination.
Testing of five samples revealed four were ASF-positive.
