Sleeper bus driver arrested following tragic crash that killed 10 in north-central Vietnam

Police in Ha Tinh Province, north-central Vietnam detained the driver of a sleeper bus involved in a road accident that claimed 10 lives and left 14 others injured on Friday, an officer said on Saturday.

The provincial Department of Public Security announced that it had launched criminal proceedings against a case in which the sleeper bus, driven by Le Ngoc Thanh, a 36-year-old resident of Dong Quang Ward in Thanh Hoa Province, overturned on National Highway 1 in Ha Tinh Province in the early hours of Friday.

According to the investigation, at around 2:00 am, the sleeper bus, operated by Tan Kim Chi transport service provider and registered in Da Nang City, central Vietnam, was traveling from Hanoi to Da Nang when it suddenly veered off course and struck roadside markers before overturning.

The bus was carrying 28 people, including the driver, a bus assistant, and 26 passengers.

Among the passengers was a child under seven years old.

The driver said that a front tire blowout caused him to lose control of the vehicle, resulting in the crash.

The crash left 10 dead and 14 others hospitalized.

On the same day of the incident, police detained Thanh, while launching criminal proceedings against the case of traffic violations.
