On Wednesday, Quang Tri border guards said they had coordinated with a specialized anti-drug and crime task force under the Border Guard Command and police in Laos’ Savannakhet province to arrest three Lao nationals in a cross-border fireworks smuggling case.
On September 13, the joint task force cordoned off and inspected seven warehouses in the My Yen-Ma Hat area of Sepon district, Savannakhet province, Laos, seizing 1,120 boxes of various types of fireworks weighing about 30 tonnes.
The suspects fled into the forest under cover of darkness, flooding and difficult terrain.
