Snow is falling over Sa Pa, a popular tourist town in Vietnam’s mountainous province of Lao Cai, as an enhanced cold front continues to freeze the area.

The cold spell developed in the country’s northern region on Tuesday night, causing temperature in several localities to nose dive.

As of Wednesday morning, local weather services were reporting temperatures at 1.2 degrees Celsius in Sa Pa Town, a famous tourist destination nestled 1,600 meters above sea level in Vietnam’s northern mountains.

Snow first started falling at on Mount Fansipan, Vietnam’s highest peak at 3,134 meters, at 8:00 am. Fansipan sits just nine kilometers southwest of Sa Pa.

As temperatures continued dropping, snowfall spread to nearby areas, including Sa Pa Town and other localities in Lao Cai Province.

Snow was still falling in Sa Pa as of 1:15 pm on that same day.

The weather pattern was forecast to linger until early Thursday morning.
