Sovico Group, a founding shareholder of air carrier Vietjet Air, has been committed to completing a feasibility study for metro line No. 4 in Ho Chi Minh City in the second quarter of 2026 and aims to start work on the project in the first quarter of 2027.

Sovico said in its recent report submitted to the municipal People’s Committee and relevant municipal departments that it has been actively collaborating with consulting units to survey and study the Dong Thanh - Hiep Phuoc metro line project.

Based on the study’s findings, the firm proposed the city approve a public-private partnership investment model for metro line No. 4, under a build-transfer contract structure.

Payment would be made through a combination of land funds and urban development along the route in line with transit-oriented development guidelines.

Sovico also asked the city for approval to allow it to prepare the project’s feasibility study to proceed with subsequent steps.

Sovico reaffirmed its commitment to finalize the feasibility study in the second quarter of 2026 and strive to break ground on the metro line No. 4 project in the first quarter of 2027.

To ensure full legal compliance for submission to city authorities, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance has requested relevant departments and units to review and provide feedback on the investor’s proposal.

The department also emphasized that Sovico should actively coordinate, provide necessary documentation, and clarify any related issues with the agencies consulted.

As planned, metro line No. 4 covers a total length of 47.3 kilometers, running from Dong Thanh in the Hoc Mon area through Tan Son Nhat International Airport, Ben Thanh Market, and Nguyen Huu Tho Street toward the Hiep Phuoc urban area.

The city’s first metro line, stretching 19.7 kilometers from Ben Thanh Station in downtown Ho Chi Minh City to Suoi Tien Coach Station in Thu Duc, officially began operations in December 2024, marking a historic milestone in the development of urban transport for the city after 12 years of construction.

Ho Chi Minh City aims to develop 10 metro routes spanning some 510 kilometers by 2045.

Sovico eyes additional major infrastructure projects

Sovico had earlier proposed investing about VND94 trillion (US$3.6 billion) in five transport infrastructure projects in Ho Chi Minh City under a public-private partnership model.

The projects include a 15.3-km section of Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 from Tan Van to Binh Chuan, a 5.3-km section of Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 2 from National Highway 1 to Nguyen Van Linh Boulevard, a road along the Saigon River, a road linking Go Dua Interchange to Ho Chi Minh City-Chon Thanh Expressway, and a route linking Cat Lai Port and Phu Huu Port to Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3.
