The provincial police department confirmed on Wednesday that they had received a thank-you letter from 26-year-old Swiss tourist Noad Samuel Kolly.
He praised police officers of Xuan Trach Commune for their swift and dedicated efforts in recovering his belongings.
Kolly lost his backpack on the evening of April 28 while riding a motorbike from Xuan Trach to Phong Nha, both located in Bo Trach District.
The bag, which fell off near the Da Deo Pass, contained essential documents, including his passport and laptop.
Upon receiving his report, Xuan Trach Commune police immediately organized a search operation at the reported location and coordinated with neighboring communes for support.
By 10:00 am on April 29, police in Trong Hoa Commune reported that a local resident had found a personal backpack on their way home from work.
After verifying the contents, authorities confirmed the bag belonged to Kolly and arranged for its return.
"I not only got my backpack back, but I also experienced the kindness, dedication, and sincerity of the people here," Kolly wrote in his thank-you letter.
He added that the assistance from local authorities allowed him to continue his trip with peace of mind and to fully enjoy his time in Vietnam.
