At around 9:26 am, Bai Chay Hospital, located in the provincial city of Ha Long, received a call reporting that a foreign tourist had suddenly lost consciousness while eating on a cruise vessel.
By 9:50 am, the hospital’s emergency team had reached the patient, who was undergoing basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
The woman had significant food and digestive fluids obstructing her throat and weak carotid pulses.
The medical team cleared her airway, continued chest compressions, and transferred her to Bai Chay Hospital.
During the transfer, the patient experienced cardiac arrest and was given continued cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Upon arrival at the hospital, she was provided with advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation for 75 minutes, but no pulse was regained.
She was pronounced dead on arrival.
The deceased was identified as Huang Hsiu Hsing, born in 1957.
Authorities were informed, and her body was transferred to the Ha Long City Funeral Home for further handling in accordance with regulations.
A source familiar with the matter told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that the incident occurred as the cruise ship was returning to port after a two-day, one-night itinerary.
The Taiwanese woman reportedly began choking while having breakfast.
Fellow travelers attempted first aid and contacted emergency services, but by the time the vessel reached shore, she was unresponsive.
Authorities in Quang Ninh are coordinating to handle the case in line with current protocols.
