Thai Ambassador to Vietnam Urawadee Sriphiromya presented the ‘SCG Sharing the Dream’ scholarships to outstanding Vietnamese students at a ceremony in Hanoi on Wednesday, expressing admiration for their resilience and achievements.

The event, jointly organized by the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization’s Central Council and SCG Group of Thailand, recognized students and university undergraduates from disadvantaged backgrounds who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance.

This year, the program has awarded scholarships to 150 students, including 100 from public universities, with individual awards ranging from VND2 million (US$76) to VND15 million ($570).

The total value of the scholarships, including additional post-scholarship training support, amounted to VND1.6 billion ($60,870).

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Urawadee noted that she had attended SCG scholarship events in other countries, but this was her first time participating in Vietnam.

She listened attentively to the students’ personal stories, expressing understanding of the challenges they face and admiration for their achievements.

The ambassador said that the Thai government values youth empowerment and sustainable development, noting that the scholarship program plays an important role in strengthening bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand.

Nguyen Pham Duy Trang, secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee and chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization’s Central Council, noted that the ‘SCG Sharing the Dream’ scholarship has supported students in Vietnam for 18 years.

Since 2022, the program has expanded nationwide and broadened its eligibility, aligning with the union’s mission to foster youth development across the country.

Trang highlighted that 2025 marks a milestone as Vietnam and Thailand prepare to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

She added that since 2022, the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization’s Central Council and SCG Group have organized three consecutive scholarship cycles, awarding 600 scholarships to outstanding students with a total value exceeding VND5 billion ($190,240).

Beyond financial support, the program also provides skill-building workshops on environmental protection, career orientation, and recognition programs for exemplary learning models and community projects led by students.

SCG Group, established in 1913, is a leading manufacturing conglomerate in Thailand and Southeast Asia, with core businesses in cement, chemicals, and packaging.
