If someone asks you to describe what a traffic jam in Ho Chi Minh City is like, congestion during the usual after-work rush hour on Monday may save you from having to find the right words - just show them these photos.
Thousands of vehicles of all kinds got stuck on Phan Dinh Phung Street, especially at the intersection with Huynh Van Banh Street, in Phu Nhuan District between 6:00 and 6:30 pm yesterday.
Some traffic police officers were at the scene but could do nothing to ease the gridlock.
Motorbike drivers yelled at each other, attempting to move forward inch by inch, but this only worsened the situation.
Cars and motorbikes crossed each other's lanes, and everyone got stuck on the street for half an hour as there was no alternative route.
On Huynh Van Banh, which connects Nguyen Van Troi and Phan Dinh Phung, the situation was the same.
“Congestion just happens on a daily basis in this area,” Thai Thi Thu told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper amid the sea of vehicles.
“Traffic police only showed up once it was too late to do anything. I am fed up with traveling on this route every day.”
Look at some photos of the traffic jam below, and cross your fingers that you will not encounter anything similar to this on your way home today.
