A farm in Hanoi surrounded by fields of purpletops has become a new hot spot for Instagrammers.

With 70,000 purpletop plants growing across 12,000 square meters of field, the Long Bien Flower Plateau in Long Bien District is by far the largest purpletop operation to be set up in the city.

Purpletops, or purpletop vervains, are a flowering plant popularly grown across the world thanks to its beauty and symbolic meanings.

Purpletops' lilac-purple flowers bloom for two to three months each year.

In Vietnam, the plant is primarily found in the northern mountainous resort town of Sa Pa, where several hills are covered by the stunning purple flowers.

Since the purpletops in Long Bien began its annual bloom, the flower plateau has boomed in popularity amongst youth looking to add something new and unique to their Instagram and young couples looking for a stunning backdrop to shoot wedding photos, according to Nguyen Chung Tinh, manager of the Long Bien Flower Plateau.

“Because the weather here can get as cool as in Sa Pa, we’ve been successful in bringing the purpletop plants down from Sa Pa,” said Tinh.

Nguyen Thi Huyen Trang, 20, a college student in Hanoi, shared her excitement at seeing the violet flowers in full bloom, likening the scene to a fairy tale.

“As I have only seen pictures of purpletops on the Internet, I was caught by surprise when I saw how well the dark violet flowers stood out from the green leaves,” she shared.
