Toyota Vietnam has recently teased its next-generation Hilux on its official Facebook page as the Japanese automaker is preparing to debut the pickup truck model in Vietnam in January 2026.

The teaser reveals only part of the front end, including the Toyota badge, headlamp cluster, and a section of the grille.

Ahead of the official announcement, several dealerships nationwide have reportedly begun accepting deposits for the new Toyota Hilux.

Some sales consultants have even suggested that the first units could be delivered as early as January 2026, just ahead of the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday, which lasts from February 14 to 22, 2026.

In terms of variants, the new-generation Hilux in Vietnam is expected to retain a three-version lineup similar to the current model.

Industry insiders suggest that the 4x4 AT variant will almost certainly be offered, corresponding to the Overland version sold in Thailand.

The entry-level version is likely to feature a manual transmission and fabric upholstery, while a fully electric Hilux is not expected to be part of Toyota’s Vietnam lineup in the near future.

In Thailand, most versions of the new Hilux continue to be powered by the 2.8-liter GD Super Power diesel engine, producing 204 horsepower and a peak torque of up to 500 Nm.

The engine is paired with either a manual or automatic transmission.

Buyers can choose between rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations, with a differential lock available to enhance off-road capability.

The cabin has been comprehensively redesigned, drawing inspiration from the Land Cruiser Prado.

It boasts a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch central touchscreen supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Additional features include an electronic parking brake, wireless charging and the latest generation of Toyota Safety Sense.

Higher-end versions offer leather upholstery, a full LED lighting system, and selectable drive modes, including Eco, Normal, and Sport.

Safety remains a strong point for the Hilux, with standard features such as an anti-lock brake system, electronic brake-force distribution, emergency brake assist, vehicle stability control, traction control, hill-start assist, trailer sway control, and parking cameras and sensors.

Pricing for the Toyota Hilux 2026 has not yet been announced.

Currently, the Hilux is sold in Vietnam in three variants, priced at VND668-999 million (US$25,340-37,900).

Given the comprehensive upgrades and the transition to a new generation, the price of the 2026 Hilux, particularly the top-spec version, is widely expected to exceed the VND1 billion ($37,945) mark.

Once launched, the 2026 Hilux’s main rival in Vietnam is likely to remain the Ford Ranger, alongside fellow Japanese competitor Mitsubishi Triton.

For years, the local pickup segment has been dominated by the Ranger, often described as ‘Ranger and the rest.’

With the upcoming arrival of a fully renewed Hilux, Toyota is expected to narrow the gap and bring greater balance to the competition in this highly contested segment.
