The move is seen as part of the Japanese automaker’s strategy to diversify its product lineup and cater to a broader customer base.
This upcoming version of the Innova Cross will serve as the standard variant, equipped with essential features.
The new variant is expected to be priced at VND750-760 million (US$28,460-28,840), close to the former Innova E MT, which was previously listed at VND755 million ($28,700) before its discontinuation.
The new model is anticipated to debut as early as December, with customer deliveries slated for before the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday, lasting from February 14 to 22.
The standard version is likely to retain the same powertrain as the existing Innova Cross V.
It will feature a 2.0-liter gasoline engine delivering 150 horsepower and 188 Nm of torque, paired with an automatic transmission, a notable upgrade from the former Innova E MT, which was only available with a manual gearbox.
As a cost-effective option, the new Innova Cross is expected to come with pared-down features compared to the higher-end V version.
Predicted changes include fabric seats with manual adjustment, halogen headlights, the absence of 360-degree camera and paddle shifters, no Toyota Safety Sense package, and no sunroof or daytime running lights.
The second-row seating is likely to follow a 60:40 split-bench configuration, rather than offering two independent seats.
Currently, the Toyota Innova Cross is sold in two variants in Vietnam: the gasoline-powered V at VND825 million ($31,340) and the hybrid-powered HEV at VND1.005 billion ($38,180).
