Nearly 30 people lose their lives each day in Vietnam due to traffic incidents, according to the National Traffic Safety Committee.

This grim statistic was highlighted during a solemn memorial ceremony for traffic accident victims held on Saturday at Long Son Pagoda in Tay Nha Trang Ward under Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam.

The event, themed ‘Remembering the Departed – For the Sake of the Living,’ was co-organized by the committee and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.

Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, standing vice-president of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, emphasized that the memorial was not only an occasion to pray for the peaceful passing of the victims’ souls, but also a powerful message urging individuals to cherish life and adopt a more conscious and responsible attitude when participating in traffic.

The daily toll serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for improved traffic awareness, stricter enforcement, and greater collective responsibility on roads.

Each life lost is not just a family’s tragedy, but a societal loss, according to the committee.

The ceremony was aimed at commemorating the victims while also encouraging agencies, organizations, and individuals to comply with traffic laws, foster a culture of safe and civilized travel, and offer support to families who have suffered irreparable losses due to traffic accidents.
