Traffic light failure causes hours-long congestion in Ho Chi Minh City

A major street leading to downtown Ho Chi Minh City was teeming with vehicles moving at a snail’s pace reportedly due to traffic light malfunction on Tuesday morning.

The sheer volume of slow-running traffic started crowding both the carriageways of the Saigon Bridge and part of Dien Bien Phu Street around 7:00 am.

The overwhelming flow stretched around 1.5 kilometers.

Locals said drivers did not give way to one another when traffic lights failed, causing the chaos.

It took police well over two hours to handle the situation.
