The Vietnam Railway Authority reported that the collision deformed the steel beams and track on span number two of the bridge, which carries trains on the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City line.

The barge became stuck under the bridge, blocking traffic.

One motorcyclist crossing the bridge sustained minor injuries.

Built in 2016 to replace an older bridge that collapsed after a similar accident, the Ghenh Bridge measures 239.2 meters with three steel spans, each 76.2 meters long.

Inspectors confirmed visible damage to the beams and track, prompting an immediate halt to train services.

The SE22 train, scheduled to depart earlier that day, was stopped at Di An Station in Ho Chi Minh City.

Passengers were refunded and the train dissolved, along with SE10 and TN4 services.

Authorities arranged for buses to transfer passengers between Bien Hoa and Di An Stations.

The Vietnam Railway Authority requested the Ministry of Construction to order Vietnam Railways to suspend operations across the bridge, conduct safety inspections, and prepare emergency repair plans.

Officials also suggested that the Ministry of Public Security consider criminal charges if violations of waterway traffic laws are found.

On Friday alone, three trains departing from Saigon Station, including TN4, SE22, and SE10, were canceled.

Other trains, including SE4, SE2, and SNT2, were rerouted with passengers transferred by bus.

In total, about 1,500 passengers were affected.
