Tuoi Tre Online established amid Ho Chi Minh City’s major media restructuring drive

Under the restructuring plan approved by the municipal Party Committee, the restructuring transforms Tuoi Tre into one of three financially autonomous press agencies under the newly-founded Ho Chi Minh City Press and Radio-Television Agency.

Tuoi Tre Online will perform news media functions in accordance with Vietnam's Press Law while prioritizing digital journalism, multimedia products, and digital communication platforms.

The city appointed Tran Xuan Toan, deputy general director of the Ho Chi Minh City Press and Radio-Television Agency and former deputy editor-in-chief of Tuoi Tre, as editor-in-chief of Tuoi Tre Online.

Eight deputy editors-in-chief were also appointed, including Le Xuan Trung, Nguyen Hoang Nguyen, Dinh Minh Trung, Ta Thi Nam Hong, Dinh Duc Tho, Nguyen Thai Binh, Le Cao Cuong, and Nguyen Thi Thu Ha.

The establishment of Tuoi Tre Online marks a new chapter for one of Vietnam's most influential news brands, which has served readers for more than five decades.

Founded on September 2, 1975, Tuoi Tre evolved from a newspaper under the Ho Chi Minh City chapter of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union into one of Vietnam's leading news organizations, earning a nationwide reputation for credible journalism.

Over the past 51 years, the publication has been recognized for pioneering innovations in newsroom operations, technology adoption, and digital journalism.

Its investigative reporting and public-interest stories have helped shape policy and expose wrongdoing, strengthening its reputation among readers at home and abroad.

Prior to the media restructuring drive, the Tuoi Tre media ecosystem had expanded to include print publications, online news, and multiple digital platforms.

It was also among Vietnam's first press agencies to adopt financial self-sufficiency while building a professional newsroom.

Tuoi Tre entered digital publishing early, launching its online platform on December 1, 2003, at a time when print newspapers still dominated Vietnam's media landscape.

Building on that foundation, the organization gradually developed a multimedia, multi-platform ecosystem to meet changing audience habits.

Since late 2024, Tuoi Tre has operated a modern digital newsroom designed to foster collaboration and creativity.

The move to Tuoi Tre Online is expected to expand its reach, strengthen its role in digital transformation, and enhance service quality for readers in Vietnam and abroad.
