In a diplomatic note An Giang police received on Wednesday, the embassy praised the humanitarian spirit and sense of justice shown by the Vietnamese people, while commending the professionalism and dedication of the provincial police for their timely support for Oleksandr Kyselytisa, a Ukrainian national rescued off the coast of Phu Quoc.
According to An Giang police, Kyselytisa was rescued on September 10 by the fishing vessel KG-31393-TS captained by Tran Van Chinh from Phu Quoc Special Zone.
At the time, he was found with a leg injury, in poor health, and without any identification or personal belongings.
Upon receiving the report, provincial authorities immediately directed the local Immigration Office to coordinate with Phu Quoc police, the Coast Guard Region 4 Command, and the local border guard force to verify his identity and provide shelter, medical care, and basic necessities.
The An Giang Department of Tourism and the Ukrainian Embassy also worked together to arrange necessary consular support.
Thanks to these joint efforts, Kyselytisa recovered his health, received a new passport and visa, and completed exit procedures at Phu Quoc International Airport.
On October 16, he safely departed Vietnam on flight AK544 to return to Ukraine.
