An official in Soc Trang Ward said on Friday the house, located near the Chu Y bridge ramp, was built around April 2025 when the area was undergoing clearance to build a new section of Ly Thai Tong Street connecting to Nguyen Van Linh Street.
Authorities are reviewing the case because the structure existed before the establishment of Soc Trang Ward, the official said.
Soc Trang Ward was part of the former Soc Trang Province, which was merged into Can Tho City under a nationwide administration revamp in July 2025.

The unusual structure has drawn attention on Vietnamese social media.
The two-story house has a triangular shape, with a frontage of about 15 meters and a maximum depth of around five meters, while the narrowest section measures slightly wider than an adult's hand.
Residents said many homes in the area had been partially demolished during the road expansion project, leaving some households to rebuild on the remaining portions of land.
