U.S.-based Murphy Oil Corporation has affirmed its commitment to expanding investment in Vietnam’s energy sector, citing its successful operations and confidence in the country’s strong growth potential in the coming years.

The pledge was made by Eric Hambly, president and CEO at Murphy Oil, during his meeting with Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam in Hanoi on Wednesday, as part of his working visit to Vietnam, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At the meeting, Hambly shared the group’s global business strategy, emphasizing that Vietnam remains an important partner.

He expressed sincere appreciation to the Vietnamese government for its support, highlighting the close and effective cooperation of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group in facilitating the company’s exploration and production activities.

Citing Murphy Oil’s positive results in recent years and expressing confidence in Vietnam’s robust growth outlook, Hambly affirmed the group’s commitment to expanding investment in the country.

General Secretary Lam praised the corporation for its long-term commitment and successful operations in Vietnam.

He welcomed the group’s plan to expand and strengthen oil and gas exploration and production in the near future, emphasizing that energy cooperation remains a key pillar of the Vietnam–U.S. comprehensive strategic partnership.

Lam urged Murphy Oil to accelerate its projects and affirmed that Vietnam will continue to create favorable conditions for the company and other foreign investors in the energy sector.

He also outlined Vietnam’s energy development vision through 2030 and 2045, focusing on energy security, efficient resource use, environmental protection, and climate change response.

Expressing optimism about Vietnam’s economic prospects, including its oil and gas industry, Lam asked Murphy Oil to work closely with Vietnamese ministries and partners to effectively implement its projects and promote technology transfer and human resource training.

Hambly affirmed that Murphy Oil will continue to accompany Vietnam in developing its oil and gas industry, transferring technology, and training high-quality personnel in line with the Party chief’s guidance.

Founded in 1950 and headquartered in Arkansas, Murphy Oil is one of the U.S. leading energy corporations, specializing in oil and gas exploration and production.

The company operates major projects in the U.S., Canada, and Malaysia, and Vietnam has recently become an emerging market in its portfolio.

According to its official website, Murphy Oil is currently operating several oil and gas blocks in the Cuu Long and Phu Khanh basins and is investing in the Lac Da Vang field offshore Vietnam, which is expected to produce its first oil in the fourth quarter of 2026.
