US tech giant eyes expansion in Vietnam on rising AI demand

Vietnamese firms are embracing artificial intelligence (AI) faster than those in many other markets, prompting U.S. technology giant Teradata to expand its local presence, build a domestic workforce and help companies unlock the full potential of AI.

Josh Abbott, Teradata’s vice president for Asia Pacific and Japan, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) online newspaper that Vietnam’s growing hi-tech manufacturing sector and robust economic growth, including rising GDP per capita, were enhancing the country’s appeal to the international business community.

Drawing on his experience working with local customers, he also praised the expertise and professional capabilities of Vietnamese specialists and workers.

What particularly impressed him was the pace at which Vietnamese companies were developing their approaches to AI adoption, which he described as comparatively advanced against many other markets where Teradata operates.

As such, Teradata plans to expand its operations and investment in Vietnam, with an initial focus on building a local workforce.

The firm is also advancing its ‘Launchpad’ initiative across the Asia-Pacific region to accelerate solution deployment and mobilize local experts to work directly with customers.

The initiative includes Vietnamese-speaking personnel who can provide hands-on support, helping businesses implement technology more efficiently.

As companies become more capable of applying AI, their needs extend beyond the technology itself to the underlying data infrastructure, he said.

Therefore, Teradata focuses on helping businesses establish the right data context, strengthen data governance and optimize databases.

These capabilities are essential to ensuring AI systems can access relevant information and deliver insights that support better business decisions.

Cost control is another major challenge for companies investing in AI and data infrastructure.

When systems run slowly, businesses often respond by adding computing resources.

However, this approach does not necessarily resolve performance problems if workloads are not allocated and managed efficiently.

Teradata aims to help customers optimize system performance and make more effective use of existing computing resources.

The company also plans to develop flexible service packages to lower upfront costs, making it easier for customers to test and evaluate solutions before committing to larger investments.

Founded in 1979, Teradata is a leading American software company specializing in enterprise data and analytics solutions.
