It also serves as a testament to the deepening comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the U.S..
Dr. An Mei Chen, vice-president of engineering at Qualcomm, said the new facility will focus on innovation from fundamental research to platform development, along with fostering regional talent and academic partnerships.

Qualcomm’s activities in Vietnam align closely with national strategies on AI, semiconductors, and digital transformation, emphasizing technology transfer, ecosystem development, and capacity building, Chen commented.
The Southeast Asian country is proactively building a public-private ecosystem to accelerate digital transformation, upskill its workforce, and enhance innovation.
In this context, Qualcomm’s investment will support Vietnam in implementing national priorities by leveraging world-leading AI expertise.
It will also provide opportunities for Vietnamese researchers to develop effective solutions to both domestic and international challenges, she added.
Qualcomm has been present in Vietnam since 2003, with two offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
In 2020, the company inaugurated its first R&D center in Southeast Asia in Hanoi, focusing on 5G technology and chipsets.
