Vegetable prices in Ho Chi Minh City eased slightly this week as additional imports from Thailand and China arrived, though costs remain well above normal due to sharp supply declines from Da Lat, traders said.

Tomatoes sold for VND50,000–65,000 (US$2–2.5) per kg at retail markets on Monday, while butterhead lettuce was priced at VND65,000–75,000 ($2.5–3).

Gourds, squash, and melons ranged between VND32,000 ($1.2) and VND45,000 ($1.7).

Prices for most items remain about double typical levels, vendors said.

Wholesale markets in Ho Chi Minh City reported tomatoes at VND45,000 per kg and lettuce at VND55,000–60,000 ($2.1–2.3).

Daily volumes have reached around 1,500 tonnes, still below normal, according to the Thu Duc wholesale market management.

Supplies from Da Lat, a key growing region, remain 40–60 percent below seasonal norms after prolonged rain and low temperatures, producers said.

A Da Lat supplier said leafy vegetables could recover within a month if weather improves, but root vegetables may remain limited because of longer growing cycles.

Supermarkets have kept prices more stable due to fixed contracts, although inbound volumes have fallen about 20 percent, retailers said.
