Tung was nominated in Electoral Unit No. 12 of Ho Chi Minh City, affirming his credibility and the high level of confidence voters place in him.
Electoral Unit No. 12 comprises Hoc Mon, Xuan Thoi Son, Ba Diem, Phu Hoa Dong, Dong Thanh, Binh My, An Nhon Tay, Nhuan Duc, Thai My, Tan An Hoi, and Cu Chi Communes.
On February 5, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Son Dong Commune in Hanoi convened a conference to gather comments and votes of confidence from local voters regarding candidates for the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-31 term.
As a result, 100 percent of the attending voters voted in favor of introducing Tung as a qualified candidate for the National Assembly election.
On January 16, he also received 100 percent approval from voters at his workplace.
The nomination reflects voters’ recognition of Tung’s long-standing dedication, professional development and contributions, while also underscoring public trust and expectations placed on leaders of key state-owned enterprises that play a pivotal role in the national economy.
Having devoted nearly three decades to Vietcombank, Tung rose through the ranks from a credit officer to senior leadership positions, including chief of office, branch director and chief executive officer, before being entrusted with the role of chairman of the board.
His continuous and comprehensive experience across multiple areas of banking has enabled him to accumulate extensive practical knowledge and deep expertise in financial and banking operations.
In Ho Chi Minh City, the country’s largest economic hub, Vietcombank has for many years served as a leading bank in providing capital for production, business activities, import-export enterprises, and small- and medium-sized firms.
Beyond its commercial operations, the bank has actively participated in social welfare initiatives, including building charitable houses, sponsoring education and healthcare programs, and supporting major events in the city.
These contributions have helped strengthen financial resources for socio-economic development in the city and improve residents’ quality of life.
Tung, who was born in 1974 in Hanoi, holds a master's degree in economics from Paris Dauphine University.
He began working at Vietcombank in 1997.
March 15 has been officially designated as the nationwide election day for Vietnam’s legislative and local representative bodies.
On Sunday, voters across the country will cast ballots to elect deputies to the 16th National Assembly, the national legislature, and members of People’s Councils at provincial and commune levels.
These elected bodies will serve for the 2026–31 term.
