The maintenance center, which includes hangars 3 and 4, has a total investment of nearly VND1.7 trillion (some US$70 million).
Spanning over 8.4 hectares, the project aims to service at least two Code E aircraft and four Code C aircraft simultaneously.
The project also includes the construction of an operations building, the installation of maintenance equipment, and supporting infrastructure for business operations.
Hangars 3 and 4 are expected to be completed by June 2026.
Nguyen Minh Hoi, head of the internal affairs commission of the Dong Nai Province Party Committee, said that the maintenance center is a key project of significant importance to the province's socio-economic development.
Once completed, it will become a modern aircraft maintenance hub that meets international standards and is projected to create 500–600 high-quality jobs for engineers, technicians, and local workers.
Hoi emphasized that the project will not only complete Long Thanh Airport’s aviation service ecosystem but also promote the development of high-tech industries, improve the quality of human resources, and drive sustainable growth for both Dong Nai and the surrounding region.
“It will also become a crucial link in the value chain of aviation services at Long Thanh Airport, thereby attracting more domestic and international investors and gradually forming a modern, competitive regional and global air transit hub,” Hoi added.
Do Hong Cam, deputy director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, noted that Vietjet’s maintenance center, once operational, will play an important role in enhancing aircraft maintenance and repair capabilities to international standards.
He urged the investor to continue working with the highest commitment to ensure the project's progress and quality, in accordance with directives from the Prime Minister and Ministry of Construction.
Long Thanh Airport is currently a massive construction site, with thousands of workers and engineers actively working.
The scene is bustling, with heavy equipment operating around the clock and dump trucks continuously moving in and out of the site.
The Airports Corporation of Vietnam reported that 11 of the 14 packages under the third component are currently under simultaneous construction.
Following the Prime Minister’s directive, contractors have mobilized nearly 14,000 personnel, including experts, engineers, and workers, and around 3,000 pieces of equipment to accelerate progress.
Key elements such as the passenger terminal, underground infrastructure, and internal airport roads are all on schedule.
The structural work of the passenger terminal has largely been completed, with roofing, glass facade, and technical systems now being installed.
After negotiating revised construction timelines and methods, all contractor consortiums have committed to accelerating progress by three to six months ahead of the original schedule.
The first phase of Long Thanh Airport is expected to be completed by December 19 this year, and commercial operations are set to begin in the first half of 2026, an ACV representative said.
The Long Thanh International Airport project, with an estimated investment of over VND336.63 trillion ($12.93 billion), broke ground in January 2021 and is being developed in three phases.
When all three phases are finished, likely after 2035, the airport will be the largest in Vietnam with an annual capacity of 100 million passengers and five million metric tons of cargo.
